Accountability

We all know that I've been ranting and raving for awhile about officials having too much control in a game. It's great to finally see some accountability! Though I rarely, if ever, would advocate for anyone to lose their job (I didn't even feel too strongly about Imus losing his job) but it's a positive sign for me that at least one league cares about the quality of the referees enough to discipline them. I would have been happy for a long suspension or something like that, but David Stern has spoken; he will not tolerate out of control refs in any way, shape, or form!

I got's to go but wanted to squeeze in this quick post. Thanks for visiting, and check out EWalk, Fern, Joey, and Steve-O's sights for some more insightful posts, oh, don't forget to visit Big Cheeze as well.

P.S. Congrats to Jed and Rob-dogg, as well as EWalk with the pregnancies, we are all happy for you!

P.P.S. Rob-dogg, I tried to leave feedback on your blog twice but it still hasn't showed up???

Barnes, I saw Doug e dug today on campus. Yeah man referees sometimes enjoy the limelight a little too much, esp. in the NBA. It is ridiculous how they try to make the games close. It makes the game look like an And1 event or a globetrotters game. The suspension was appropriate for the ref, and also, the NBA needs to make some more change because it really stinks right now. What other changes do you think they need to make to improve the game?

Some changes I would like to see, is the calling of cheap fouls on scrubs and not calling them on the stars. Enforcing the carrying violation, it gives the offense way-to-much of an advantage. Enforcing the traveling violation, you can't just switch pivot feet in front of the nation and the people that are being paid to enforce the rules not call it! Also, as you mentioned, the refs trying to discretely make the games close, if a team is getting blown out, let the opposing team do something about it not the refs! Also, I don't know if there is a rule against this or not, but once a ref blows the whistle for a foul and the player tries to continue and make a shot, let the opposing team floor them, or at least let them make foul them again hard enough that it's impossible for them to make the and 1 (does that make sense?). To clarify, if Kobe gets fouled on a fast break somewhere around the 3 point line and the ref calls it then, let the big man underneath knock his block off so that he can't score the 2 points. Another rule would be the principal of verticality, or if a guy is driving on you and simply ducks his shoulder into you or creates some sort of contact with you, don't reward him with a foul for the only way to avoid this silly foul being called on you is by simply getting out of the way after he carried to get by you!

I guess I'll leave it at that.

In my many years of watching sports and generally knowing a lot more than most people, I have to say I agree with Barnes. I remember it being said in a song that "a scrub is a guy who won't get no love from me" but this shouldn't apply in basketball, folks.

I think they should widen the lane, leave the three point line, and have a 30 sec shot clock. They need to call the walks and carries and quit trying to make the games close with ridiculous hypocritical fouls. You make some great points. The dress code helped the image of the NBA a bit, but they have a lot more to do...I'm not really even that interested in watching the playoffs, and I've always liked watching NBA. I miss Sunday afternoon with Laker vs Celtics, where pride actually mattered.

I would also like to say that I do enjoy watching some NBA games, anytime the Suns play I thoroughly enjoy it, the ball movement is wonderful, it's how the game should be played! I also need to say that Dwayne Wade is my favorite out of his draft class, but I wish the refs would call the carrying that he does, it's unbelievable, no one can guard you if you pick up the ball on every dribble!

I would like to see them allow teams to really play a zone instead of the stupid "Illegal defense" technical foul, how obsurd! Basically, I'm in favor of the college rules but the 3 point line being as far back as it is in the pros. But I wouldn't like the lane to be widened, I'd like it shortened, thus giving all the shooters of the world more space to operate! This would also give life to the mid-range game as well which is another lost art. I'm surprised that Larry Legend didn't want more space to get up a few more open shots?

Shortened? You mean like a skinnier lane? People would just camp out all day and 75% of the shots would be dunks or layups by the big guys.

Hey, check out this article. I like this guy's basketball philosophy.

I liked the article as well. I found it odd though that the first thing that he praises after he is done with his article is Derrick Rose's dunks and dancing after it??? It was just a little befuddling for me.

Oh yeah, you speak as though dunks and lay ups by big guys is a bad thing??? Dunks and lay ups are what we are to be striving for in the offense! It would make everyone play better defense and strategize better on how to defend the Shaqs and the Yoas of the league. Overall, I guess I would say that I am for anything that benefits the big man, be it letting them camp out in the lane on defense or post up obsurdly close to the basket for the more they worry about the big man, the less they worry about me and that's always a good thing!
